Partner.io integrates with Stripe promotion codes so partner reps can share their own trackable discount codes with customers. When a customer uses a partner's code in Stripe, Partner.io uses that code to support payment attribution.
Coupons are created and managed in Stripe. Partner.io reads those coupons, makes them available to partner reps, and allows reps to create promotion codes from them.
Stripe coupons and promotion codes work together:
Customer benefit: the customer receives a discount on their purchase.
Partner attribution: the promotion code identifies which partner rep referred or influenced the customer.
This means a single paid Stripe invoice can help Partner.io create or update lead activity and record revenue after Stripe discounts are applied. The customer does not need to use a referral link for Partner.io to use the promotion code for attribution.
For example:
A Stripe coupon named Partner Launch Discount is created for 20% off.
A partner rep creates the promotion code ACME20 from that coupon in Partner.io.
The partner rep shares ACME20 with a customer.
The customer uses ACME20 in Stripe.
Partner.io tracks that the code belongs to that partner rep and uses it as part of payment attribution.
Coupon setup happens in Stripe. Create the discount templates you want partner reps to use, such as:
20% off first year
USD 25.00 off
A one-time discount
A repeating discount for a set number of months
A discount with a redemption limit or expiration date
After the coupon exists in Stripe, Partner.io displays it through the connected Stripe account.
Partner reps log in to Partner.io and choose from the Stripe coupons available to your company. For each coupon, Partner.io shows the coupon name, discount terms, and Stripe account so the rep understands what the code will apply to.
The partner rep then enters a custom code to share with customers.
Partner.io automatically converts codes to uppercase before creating them in Stripe. For example, acme-20 becomes ACME-20.
Once submitted, Partner.io creates the promotion code in Stripe, links it to the selected coupon, and stores the code in Partner.io for reporting and attribution.
The partner rep shares their code with customers. When a customer uses the code in Stripe checkout or billing, Stripe applies the coupon's discount.
The partner rep does not need to take any additional action after sharing the code.
When the Stripe invoice is paid, Partner.io matches the payment to a lead.
Partner.io checks for a matching lead using:
Stripe customer ID
Customer email
Configured customer identifier fields
Promotion code attribution
Partner.io first looks for an existing lead using the Stripe customer details. If an existing lead is found, the payment is attributed to that lead. This helps prevent duplicate leads for returning customers, even when the customer used a promotion code.
If no existing lead is found and the invoice includes a promotion code known to Partner.io, Partner.io uses promotion-code attribution to create a new Stripe-sourced lead for the partner rep who owns that code. When Stripe provides a customer email address, Partner.io adds it as a contact on the new lead.
Partner.io then records invoice line items as lead payments. If Stripe applied a discount to an invoice line item, Partner.io records the net amount after subtracting the discount.
The Stripe Coupons area in Partner.io gives visibility into promo codes from connected Stripe accounts and the coupons associated with them.
Each partner-created promotion code includes:
Column | Description |
|---|---|
Code | The customer-facing promotion code, such as |
Coupon name | The Stripe coupon attached to the code |
Partner rep | The partner rep who created or owns the code |
Partner | The partner organization the rep belongs to |
Times redeemed | How many times Stripe reports the code has been redeemed |
Active | Whether the code is currently active |
Account | The Stripe account the code belongs to |
Partner reps can view and manage their own promotion codes in Partner.io.
Each code shows:
Coupon name
Discount terms
Code
Times redeemed
Active status
Stripe account
Partner reps can also turn their codes active or inactive. When a rep changes active status, Partner.io updates the promotion code in Stripe and then updates Partner.io.
If a code is inactive, customers should not be able to use it in Stripe.
Partner.io supports multiple connected Stripe accounts for the same company. This is useful when different customer regions, products, or billing flows use different Stripe accounts.
Coupons and promotion codes are tied to the Stripe account they come from. If a partner rep creates a code from a coupon in one Stripe account, that code belongs to that Stripe account.
When reviewing codes, the account name shows which Stripe account owns the coupon or promotion code.
Coupons are created and managed in Stripe, not in Partner.io.
Partner reps create Stripe promotion codes from existing Stripe coupons.
Each promotion code belongs to one partner rep.
Each promotion code is connected to one Stripe coupon and one Stripe account.
If a Stripe account is disconnected, related promotion codes remain visible but are treated as inactive unless the account is reconnected.
Stripe must include the promotion code on the paid invoice for Partner.io to use it for promotion-code attribution.
Confirm that the coupon exists in Stripe and belongs to a Stripe account connected to Partner.io. If your company has multiple Stripe accounts, make sure the coupon was created in the connected account you expect.
Also confirm that the Stripe integration is active. If Partner.io cannot access the connected Stripe account, it cannot list that account's coupons.
Check that the selected coupon still exists in Stripe, the Stripe integration is connected, and the code is not already used by another promotion code in your company.
If Stripe reports that the code already exists, the partner rep needs to choose a different code.
A code can be inactive because the partner rep turned it off, Stripe marked it inactive, the related coupon was deleted, or the Stripe integration is no longer connected.
If the Stripe account was disconnected, reconnecting the same Stripe account can relink the code in Partner.io.
Redemption counts are synced from Stripe promotion-code events. If a count looks stale, allow time for Stripe events to be delivered and processed.
Also confirm that the Stripe integration is connected and that Stripe events are being delivered to Partner.io.
Partner.io uses promotion codes for attribution when the paid invoice includes a promotion code known to Partner.io.
If attribution did not happen, check that:
The customer used the partner rep's promotion code in Stripe
The promotion code appears in Partner.io
The promotion code belongs to the same connected Stripe account as the invoice
The customer was not already matched to an existing lead
If an existing lead was found by Stripe customer ID, configured customer identifier fields, or email, Partner.io attributes the payment to that existing lead instead of creating a new lead from the promotion code.
Partner.io records Stripe invoice line item payments after subtracting discount amounts reported by Stripe. If the amount does not look correct, check the original invoice and line item details in Stripe to confirm where Stripe applied the discount.
When Partner.io creates a new lead from a promotion code and Stripe provides a customer email address, Partner.io adds that email as a contact on the lead.
If contact details are missing, check whether the original Stripe invoice included a customer email address.
Coupons and promotion codes are tied to the Stripe account they come from. If your company uses multiple Stripe accounts, ask the partner rep to confirm they selected the coupon from the intended account before creating the code.
Yes. A partner rep can create multiple promotion codes, including codes attached to different coupons.
No. Each promotion code belongs to one partner rep. If two reps need separate codes, each rep should create their own code.
Partner.io first tries to match the payment to an existing lead. If an existing lead is found, the payment is attributed to that lead and a new lead is not created from the promotion code.
Yes. Partner.io syncs coupon name and terms from Stripe events. The update is automatic, but it depends on Stripe event delivery and processing.
No. Coupons are created in Stripe. Partner reps create promotion codes from the coupons your company has already made available through connected Stripe accounts.
Promotion codes belong to the Stripe account where they were created. For Partner.io attribution to work through a promotion code, the code must be known to Partner.io and belong to the same connected Stripe account as the paid invoice.
